Nirbheek - India's First Firearm Designed For Women
"
LUCKNOW: Giving more power to women to defend themselves and as a tribute to December 2012 ganrape (SIC) victim Nirbhaya, the Indian Ordnance Factory, Kanpur, has manufactured Nirbheek, a .32 bore light weight revolver, India's first firearm designed for women. At 500 grams, it is also the first IOF handgun made of titanium alloy.
Firstly… TYPO! It is 'gang rape' NOT 'ganrape'.
With that out of the way - Do they seriously believe that women didn't carry firearms because they had an issue with the weight of the revolver?? Seriously?? Have you ever tried holding a woman's handbag? I have (let's not get into that). The damn things are heavy!
I am sure the weight of the revolver had never been an issue.
That said, let's give credit where it is due. When I first read the headline, I was preparing myself to see a picture of a Swarovski studded pink handgun. At least they didn't do something THAT idiotic. Although they did do something [irrelevant] to give it a feminine touch. IOF Kanpur has ordered SPECIAL boxes, lined with velvet to make it more attractive (*rolls eyes). It's the last line of the article, in case you are looking for it.
Now, I would consider this as a real measure if the INR 10 Billion Nirbhaya Fund [Link 1, Link 2] were to be utilised (at least in part) to subsidise this gun for the women. Please note, I am still against providing subsidies (to anyone), but that would be relatively acceptable as opposed to letting the entire INR 1,000 crore allocation go to waste.
