What’s wrong with extending the rule / law to every convicted rapist? Why is there a need to create this distinction?

The prosecution and the defense teams are still expected to make their own respective case and present plausible evidence / witness / testimony.

The right to appeal against the verdict (whatever it may be) would be available to be exercised.

Rape is a horrific and senseless crime. If a court convicts an accused of the rape charges, then why should the age of the victim (or that of the accused) matter?
